VETERANS, EXPELLED FROM THE COUNTRY THEY FOUGHT FOR

They were born in Mexico but spent most of their life in the United States. As adults, they enlisted in the U.S. Armed Forces, promised they’d obtain citizenship in exchange for their service. However, upon completing their time in the military, many were deported – in most cases for minor offenses like theft. Now, dozens of veterans remain stranded in Tijuana -- a city and country that are unfamiliar to them. Few of them speak Spanish or have any cultural connection to the country they left behind as young children. They remain there, trapped at the border, in hopes of one day being able to return home to their families.
